Crash US fault: official
|
A US military surveillance plane collided with and damaged a Chinese military jet over the South China Sea yesterday morning, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
The collision occurred at 9.07am when the US plane turned around and hit one of the two Chinese jets trailing the plane 104km southeast of Hainan Island, Zhu Bangzao said, adding that the US plane had been flying over Chinese territorial waters.
The Chinese jet crashed after the collision, and a search has been launched for the crew, said ministry spokesman Zhu yesterday.
He said the US plane landed on Hainan's Bingshui Airport at 9.33am without China's permission.
Zhu said the Chinese jets were flying normally and trailing the US plane according to international practice.
The US plane violated flight rules, and the United States should assume full responsibility, he said.
The Chinese Government has filed an official protest to the United States, and reserves the right to ask for compensation for the damages caused by the US plane, he added.(SD News)
