Enrollment eased

PEOPLE as old as 80 are now eligible to study in universities under a new rule, Qu Zhengyuan, an official of the Ministry of Education told reporters.
The ministry announced on Monday that beginning in the next academic year, it will cancel the decades-old restrictions on age and marital status for university and college applicants.
Under the existing rules, only people who are unmarried and aged 25 or under are allowed to take the entrance examination for undergraduate courses at higher learning institutions.
The moves are aimed at encouraging Chinese to enjoy life-long education and boost the government's efforts at achieving the “quality education", the ministry said.
The official also said the age limit will also be eased for applicants for postgraduate and doctoral courses.(SD-Xinhua)
