ZTE Corporation's GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) mobile telecommunication solution was certified by China Mobile for reliable performance in a rigid test late last month, giving the telecom equipment maker a new advantage in the mobile system development.
According to engineers, the GPRS is a mobile voice and data service system, which can greatly enhance the prevailing mobile service network GSM.
ZTE engineers say that their system combines the voice service of GSM and the powerful data service on the Internet by providing mobile access to different computing devices.
Under the GPRS environment, the mobile phone user has access not only to regular short-message information like stock quotes, news headlines, flight information and weather forecast, but also to vast resources on the Internet and corporate networks.
Engineers say that the system can also be tailored to serve special purposes like wireless point of sales (POS) system and mobile vending machines. It can even be used to monitor and track traffic, the weather and natural disasters.
What's more, GPRS system can help companies build up their mobile network, or virtual wide area network, at very low costs. The vision of mobile working environment where everybody is kept update even though they are dispersed geographically is turned into reality with the system, according to ZTE engineers.
The GPRS solution consists of a base station system, a mobile switching system, an operation and maintenance centre, and a GPRS Switching System (GSS). Its open and scalable architecture allows smooth migration to the 3G networks.
ZXG10 GPRS System supports multiple services, such as voice and high-speed data traffic flows up to 171 kbps, dynamic allocation of voice and data resources.
