World slams US for hegemony
|
THE United States should take all the responsibility of the spy plane accident. That's a shared view published by many international media outlets over the past week.
Tunisia's Ashrouq Daily on Saturday condemned the US hegemony policy while commenting on the collision. A commentary carried by the paper praised the stance of the Chinese Government and people on the issue and their demand the US apologize for the incident as a precondition to solve the current Sino-US standoff.
"The Americans tried, from the beginning, to dictate their terms and give their orders as if China were Grenada or a small country shivering and surrendering just because America is raging," the commentary said.
A Portuguese newspaper on Friday criticized US President George W Bush for poisoning international atmosphere.
In a signed article, Economic Daily criticized Bush's attitude in the standoff with China over the collision. "You can imagine how Washington would react if a Chinese surveillance plane flew over Seattle."
Chinese-Americans in San Francisco Bay area have expressed their support for China. Local Chinese-language talk shows have been inundated with irate listeners and viewers and more than 90 per cent of callers to local radio and television have criticized the US Government's handling of the incident, San Francisco Chronicle, a local publication, said last week.
"Most of the people who call in are skeptical of the US Government's story. They're leaning toward the Chinese side," said Jay "Stone" Shih, who hosts "China Crosstalk", a half-hour call-in show on KTSF-TV Channel 26.
Voices supporting China also come from countries including Greece, Pakistan, New Zealand, Spain and Syria. (SD-Agencies)
