Yantian-Bagang Expressway approved
|
THE newly completed A section of the Yantian-Bagang Expressway and the first phase construction on the line linking the Yantian port area and the expressway were praised by experts from the Guangdong Provincial Public Transportation Department, who inspected the new roadway on Friday.
The finished section earned a score of 91.5 in the comprehensive appraisal.
Located in the southeastern part of SZ, the 28.92km-long Yantian-Bagang Expressway runs from Yantian Township, Yantian District and ends at Bagang, Longgang District, involving an investment of 1.927 billion yuan (US$232 million). Its A section, connecting the starting point with Xiyong, is 10.38km long. Construction on the 8.766km-long B section between Xiyong and Kuiyong is to kick off this year while the 9.77km-long C section is planned to link Xiyong and the ending point of the expressway. Statistics show that the expressway will be the most costly one in SZ, having cost 70 million yuan per kilometre.
The line connecting Yantian port and the Yantian-Bagang Expressway is a vital part of the expressway network of eastern SZ. Costing 235 million yuan, the project is on the list of the city's key projects this year.
A glimpse at a map of SZ quickly reveals that currently most of high quality expressways are situated in the central and western parts of the city while only a single two-lane connects the city with its eastern regions, and that road was originally built for border patrols rather than heavy traffic. The six-metre-wide road has become a major headache for local transportation, made worse in the summer when citizens flock to the Dameisha and Xiaomeisha beaches.
Experts hope the Yantian-Bagang Expressway will help tap the tourism potential of the city's eastern coastal area and promote its economic development.
