Zipper factory opens

THE YKK Zipper (Shenzhen) Co Ltd opened its second Shenzhen factory yesterday in Fuyong Township, Bao'an District.
The company is part of the YKK Group based in Japan, which is the top zipper maker in the world, accounting for 55 per cent of the world's zipper production.
With an annual revenue of about US$4.6 billion in 2000 and a total of 35,625 employees, the group has invested in 168 companies across 59 countries. In China, the group has factories in Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Shanghai and Dalian.
The local YKK company, with a total investment of US$95 million so far, started production in 1998 and has generated an accumulated revenue of US$82.53 million as of the end of 2000.
