Milosevic hospitalized for heart problems
|
FORMER Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic was transferred to hospital from his jail cell late on Wednesday due to heart problems caused by high blood pressure, prison and hospital authorities said.
``Two medical teams examined Milosevic in jail and it was decided he should be transferred to a hospital,'' a source close to Belgrade prison authorities said.
A source at Belgrade's military medical academy, located in a suburb of the city, later said Milosevic, 59, had been admitted there.
There was no immediate official word on Milosevic's condition, but a medical source said after he had been admitted to hospital: ``This does not look like anything serious.''
The state Tanjug news agency gave a similar picture, quoting a source as saying Milosevic's health situation was ''not dramatic.''
He was taken from Belgrade's central prison on Wednesday night at around 5 p.m. EDT, Tanjug said.
BK Television said Milosevic's wife Mirjana Markovic, who has been visiting him daily in prison following his arrest 10 days ago, had asked that her husband be taken to hospital. (SD-Agencies)
