Reward money offered

CHINESE and foreign citizens have been promised a reward of up to 300,000 yuan (US$36,000) if they provide important information on drug trafficking in South China's Guangdong Province.
According to newly-formulated measures announced recently by the provincial government, whoever reports valuable information on drug offences in Guangdong will receive a reward of between 5,000 and 300,000 yuan as of April 1.
According to the measures jointly issued by the provincial Department of Public Security and the Department of Finance, eligible informers are those whose information helps police uncover and confiscate at least one kilogramme of heroin, ice (finished product) or cocaine, or helps police smash one or more rooms in a drug-producing workshop.
Police in Guangdong said that the move was designed to crack down harder on drug-related offences. The rewards will be given to the eligible informers within 10 days of the reported case being uncovered.
The reward money will either be put in a bank account or sent to an address as requested by the informer, said a spokesman for the Guangdong police.(Xinhua)
