A veranda party
|
IT was a very hot Sunday night. My family, like most of my neighbours, was indoors with the air conditioners and TV on.
Suddenly, the neighbourhood was hit by a power failure. After about half an hour, most flats had gradually turned hot and people began to go outdoors in search of a night breeze.
Before long, people were talking to each other about the current events and things happening in our daily lives. They also began sharing beers and soft drinks while exchanging opinions. Then, someone brought several small tables, and others contributed snacks----the scene developed into a veranda party.
All around me, people were chatting and laughing happily, and no one seemed to care that the power was still off. A crescent moon was high in the sky, its soft light mingling with the laughter.
Several hours later, as the lights were on again, the party came to an end, leaving us sad the fun had ended. The power failure had made us all realize what a pleasant place our neighbourhood was to live in.
