Hard enrolment for famed school
|
THE Shenzhen Art School, which attained local fame by educating Li Yundi, the gold-prize-winning student of Chopin International Piano Competition, has expressed disappointment at this year's enrolment figures, despite the wide publicity it received following Li's feat.
The school is in a dilemma, according to school officials. The school prefers to enrol more excellent students from inland areas, while at the same time nurturing local art students.
Unfortunately for the school, many local parents do not want their children to pursue art majors, instead urging them to choose more practical subjects.
SZ teacher wins prize
ZHANG SHUSHENG, an English teacher with the Shenzhen Luohu Foreign Language School, reached second place in the finals of the Third National Quality English Lectures for Middle School Students which was recently held in Wuhan, capital city of Hubei Province.
Experts said Mr Zhang's lecture is creative and unconventional, as it encourages students to learn through modern means like looking for materials on the web.
