Crime ring smashed

LOCAL police have announced the cracking of the biggest and most compact local criminal organization in the city's history.\
On April 11, Wang Qingpeng, the "big brother" of the Gang of Youth, was arrested in a rented house in the southern part of the city. Most of his important followers were also taken into custody.
Police say that since last May, the gang, with more than 60 members, has been engaged in such criminal activities as blackmail, extortion, charging "protection fees" and violence-for-hire.
Most of the gang members are around 20 and jobless. To inaugurate their organization, they purposely met at a beach in Shekou, burning incense sticks and taking an oath of allegiance.
The gang had such rules as "no betrayal of friends", "no internal fighting", "no advances on friends' wives" and "making and spending money together".
It even divided Nanshan District into two spheres, for each of which a chief and a deputy chief were appointed.
The gang members had uniform arms -- an iron tube wrapped in black adhesive tape, two centimetres in diameter and about two metres in length.
Over the course of a year, the gang members ran amuck in Nanshan, committing a series of crimes including seriously disfiguring a young man.
