BURUNDI: All dissident troops who seized control of state radio and television in an attempted coup, have given themselves up overnight, and the officer who led the coup have also been overpowered, reports reaching here said yesterday. No lives were lost and there was no damage during the attempted coup.
Kosovo
PRISTINA: Nato-led peacekeeping troops dismantled three road blocks put up by Serbs in northern Kosovo to protest a new tax imposed by the United Nations on goods from Serbia, a spokesman for the Kosovo force said.
Border clash
GUWAHATI, India: Heavy firing continued yesterday between frontier guards on the Indo-Bangladesh border, a day after clashes left at least 16 members of India's Border Security Force and two Bangladeshi troops dead.
Summit
QUEBEC CITY: Canadian police have arrested six people, including a Canadian Forces reservist, and seized a vast array of explosive materials near Quebec City, where the Summit of the Americas is scheduled to begin today.
Sanction
MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday that Russia stands for canceling the 10-year UN sanctions against Iraq at an early date alongside with Baghdad's observing relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
Russia will make active efforts to favour the removing of the sanctions, which are hurting Iraq and its people and are also incurring great losses on Russia, Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov told a press conference after Putin met with visiting Iraqi Vice-President Taha Yassin Ramadan in the Kremlin.
