Earl and Countess and in hand for Easter
|
THE Earl and Countess of Wessex strolled hand-in-hand to join the Queen and other members of the Royal Family for Easter service at Windsor Castle yesterday.
As the controversy over their business interests served to attract a larger than normal media presence, the couple smiled and appeared relaxed as they walked down to St George's Chapel. They were joined by the Princess Royal, her husband, Cdr Timothy Laurence and her daughter Zara Phillips. The Queen and Prince Philip arrived by Rolls-Royce to join family members outside the chapel.
Princess Margaret, who is recuperating following a third stroke, was well enough to leave her home at Kensington Palace and join other family members for Easter at Windsor, although she did not attend church.
She is said to be responding well to treatment, including physiotherapy, following the stroke almost three weeks ago, which affected her left side.
The Queen Mother, also at Windsor, did not attend the service because it was felt she might encounter problems with the steps up to the chapel.
It was the first time the Earl and Countess had been seen in public with the Queen since revelations by a Sunday newspaper about the Countess's public relations company R-JH prompted an internal review by senior advisers over possible conflicts of interest when members of the Royal family combine official duties with business careers.
The Countess has stepped down as R-JH's chairman while the review is under way and her co-founder, Murray Harkin, has resigned. The Earl runs his independent television company Ardent Productions.
