Tanzania declares war on child labour
DAR ES SALAAM: Tanzanian Prime Minister Frederick Sumaye has vowed to combat the child labour that victimizes about 400,000 children currently in the country, newspapers here reported Tuesday.
The government will make necessary policies and laws and support the social services including the education and poverty reduction programmes in addressing the problem, said Sumaye here on Monday opening a three-day meeting on the elimination of child labour.
Union leader gunned down
MANILA: Another leader of the Party of Workers which is preparing for the May election was shot dead on Monday in the northern Philippine province of Cavite.
A statement from the party said Manuel Ibe, president of the 1,300-strong labor union's Cavite chapter, was shot dead by two unidentified gunmen in front of a factory where he was employed, the Philippine Star online news flash reported on Tuesday.
Ibe was the second leader of the party to have been killed in almost three months.
