The right to love and be loved
|
I RECENTLY went to see The First Close Touch, the Internet novel-turned-movie, and couldn't help but cry. The heroine, in her prime of life, was hit by an incurable disease and had to bid an unwilling farewell to this world and the boy she loved.
However, one of my roommates argued that the girl was selfish, for she was not concerned about the pains her boyfriend might suffer after her death and accepted his love in spite of the fact that she would die soon.
I was puzzled at her words. Suddenly the boy's smile in remembering their happy time flashed in my mind. I realized that it was true love that made the boy and the girl get together. They will not leave each other despite disease, poverty or any other difficulty.
And it is unfair to question the girl's right to love and be loved. It was not her fault but misfortune that pushed her into the difficult situation. She has the same rights as healthy people and should not be treated differently. Like common people, she needs care and love to give her the confidence to carry on, if not more love than healthy folks need.
