Tourism booms
SHANGHAI: Still days before the week-long May Day holiday, over 12,000 Shanghai residents are busy preparing for overseas travel, an astonishing increase of 90 per cent over last year.
According to the municipal tourism bureau, southeast Asian countries like Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore remain the main tourist destinations, attracting 83 per cent of the local people who plan to spend the holiday abroad.
Observatory network
BEIJING: China constructed on Wednesday a national astronomical observation network which covers its top eight observatories throughout the country.
CAS president Lu Yongxiang said the network's establishment was a landmark for China's advancement in astronomical research.
Cross-Straits railway
GUANGZHOU: Chinese workers have completed the northern part of a north-south railway project that will link up Guangdong Province on the Chinese mainland and Hainan Island.
The Hainan Island and the mainland are separated by the Qiongzhou Strait. Currently, people travelling to Hainan Island have to resort to ferries and planes.
Intellectual property
NANCHANG: China's State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) has so far more than 1.2 million intellectual property applications, which makes it one of the world's eight largest intellectual property offices.
Grace period
SHANGHAI: The Shanghai Stock Exchange announced on Tuesday that it would postpone the deadline for six months for the delisting of four loss-making firms.
The particular transfer (PT) firms, Shuanglu (Double Deer), Nongshangshe, Wangdian and Hongguang, thus were given their last chance to either survive or die in the stock market.
