Visitors come, locals go
|
A WHOPPING three million locals are expected to leave the city during the May Day holidays, while 2.5-3 million visitors from other parts of the country are expected to come here.
The week-long May 1 holidays are viewed as a "Gold Week for Tourism" and Shenzhen is one of the most popular destinations. At the same time, many provincial and municipal governments have aggressively marketed their own tourist wares here in an attempt to lure vacationing Shenzheners.
On just one day, April 4, two troupes from Luoyang in Henan Province and Shaoxing in Zhejiang Province came to Shenzhen as part of a tourism marketing campaign.
According to departments concerned, many more promotion troupes are expected to come.
Besides promoting their tourism, governments in other areas are making efforts to improve services for travellers.
Wang Wenchao, vice-mayor of Luoyang City who recently led a team to Shenzhen to promote the 19th Luoyang Peony Flower Show of Henan Province, revealed that they had negotiated a deal with Shenzhen Airlines to conduct direct flights between Luoyang and Shenzhen from April 14.
According to a co-ordinated investigation carried out by both the Shenzhen Tourism Bureau and Shenzhen Information and Statistics Bureau, the consumption expenditure by Shenzheners during this year's Spring Festival period hit 5.3 billion yuan (US$ 636 million), 2.2 billon yuan higher than last year's National Day holidays.
