Big spenders in SZ
|
HONG Kong consumers spent 6.6 billion yuan (US$792 million) in Shenzhen last year, mostly on cheap goods and entertainment, a HKSAR government survey showed on Wednesday.
The figure is nearly one-third of that spent in Guangdong Province in 2000, which hit HK$20.3 billion while the figure for the whole inland area of China reached HK$29.4 billion. Hong Kongers are regularly lured by less expensive leisure, entertainment and shopping, the Census and Statistics Department of the HKSAR Government said.
Last year about 33.8 million people from Hong Kong visited the mainland on non-business trips, with each person spending an average of HK$870, the department said in its first such survey.
For the whole of 2000, a record 50.1 million Hong Kongers visited the inland, a sharp rise over the past decade from 19.1 million in 1991.(SD-Agencies)
