'The Full Monty' tops English film poll
|
LOW budget comedy ``The Full Monty'' has been voted England's all-time favourite film in a poll on movie website Empire Online.
The 1997 film, about six out-of-work Yorkshire steel workers who turn to stripping, cost US$4.9 million to make but raked in close to US$431 million at the box office.
It came out top of a poll of films run on the website to commemorate St George's Day on Monday.
The poll results ranged from ``somewhat surprising to downright obvious'', the website said.
In second place was the 1969 classic crime caper ``The Italian Job'' starring Michael Caine and Noel Coward.
The third most popular film was director Guy Ritchie's London gangland epic ``Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels''.
Just missing the top five was the Hugh Grant and Andy McDowell box office hit ``Four Weddings and a Funeral'', which was widely credited for reviving Britain's film industry upon its 1995 release.(SD-Agencies)
