Electrification
GUANGZHOU: Electrification of the Shaoguan-Guangzhou section of the Wuhan-Guangzhou Railway was completed and put into operation on Saturday.
The railway line from Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province, to Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong Province, is part of China's most important trunk line railway from Beijing to Guangzhou.
The Shaoguan-Guangzhou railway is a State first-class railway with a designed transportation speed of 120 kmh and an improved transportation capacity of 42 million tonnes from the previous 16 million tonnes.
Power generation
GUIYANG: Thanks to rapid development over the past five years, China has become the world's second-largest country in power capacity and consumption, according to a related meeting of the State Power Company, which closed in Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guiyang Province on Saturday.
The nation's overall installed capacity of power stations totals 319 million kw, and the power generation capacity reaches 1.37 trillion kwh, both ranking second in the world, sources said.
Successful flight
LHASA: The Europe's Airbus company's A319 plane made successful flight over the Tibet plateau after its two test flies at Bamda Airport, 4,334 metres in altitude and at Gonggar Airport, 3,570 metres in altitude respectively on Friday and Saturday.
The test flies were conducted at the request of China's Southwest Airlines, which will open new air routes within Tibet by using A319 planes, sources said.
Cross-Straits website
BEIJING: A new net information service with the website address of http://www.huaxia.com was launched in Beijing yesterday.
The newly-opened online service is operated by the Huaxia Jingwei Information Science and Technology Co Ltd.
Sources said that they release information through seven channels of 48 sub-items every day, featuring news across the Taiwan Straits.
