Music bar in the sky
|
Wu Yan
"WE call it the Sky Bar, because it's the highest bar in the city," said Wu Wei, manager of the bar.
The bar, located on the 42nd floor of the Shenzhen Special Zone Press Tower, was originally a western restaurant. It still is, but Wu has extended the hours of operation to midnight and made some changes to cater more to a bar crowd.
A buffet is now held from 6 pm to 9 pm. The food ranges from raw salmon to fried chicken wings, from sliced watermelon to butter cakes. The whole area, dimly lit, is divided into different forms of open but private sections by rows of decorated screens. The tables are lit by candles, while a pianist tickles the ivories in the background.
The bar's new look has resulted in an increase in the number of customers.
When the buffet ends at about half past nine, the food is replaced by beer, wine and mixed drinks, and the mellow pianist is exchanged for a woman who serves up English songs, who, by the way, takes requests. Patrons often wind up dancing to the music.
If you prefer a more private setting, you can sit away from the music, sipping your drinks and gazing at the fabulous view of Hong Kong, downtown Shenzhen, and the stars.
