US spy plane can't fly back: China
|
CHINA said yesterday that a US spy plane stranded in Hainan Province could not fly back to the United States.
“The Chinese side has several times stated clearly in relevant Sino-US negotiations that it is impossible for the US EP-3 plane to fly back to the US from Hainan Island," Foreign Ministry Spokesman Sun Yuxi said.
Sun was responding to comments by US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfield in which he expressed hopes the plane could be repaired at the Chinese base and flown back to the United States.
Sun also reiterated China's opposition to US surveillance flights off China's coast.
According to US reports, the United States resumed reconnaissance flights off China's coast on Monday after the April 1 collision incident that plunged an intercepting Chinese jet fighter into the ocean.(SD-Xinhua)
