Australian university eyes SSHS

Yang Yunfei
WITH interest growing among local middle school students in studying abroad, many language schools and college preparatory schools from countries like Britain, Australia and New Zealand have come to Shenzhen to promote their studying packages.
The great attention shown by local residents have clearly indicated the promise in catering to this academic desire.
"The market is really huge and attractive," said Malcolm McKay, vice-president of Southern Queensland University of Australia.
"We expect more Chinese students will head abroad to seek education following China's WTO entry," he added.
Southern Queensland University inked an agreement with Shenzhen Senior High School early this month to explore the lucrative local overseas education market.
According to the agreement, students from Shenzhen Senior High School can study at the preparatory school of Southern Queensland University before they become eligible to be enrolled by the university.
The two sides also agreed that co-operation would be conducted in running a school when time is ripe.
"If they have more knowledge of your university, they are most likely to choose you," McKay said.
