Jiang addresses Fortune Forum
|
PRESIDENT Jiang Zemin told hundreds of business leaders from around the world yesterday evening that China will stick to the opening-up policy, the country's long-term strategy.
“The Chinese Government will unswervingly implement the opening-up policy," Jiang told an audience of over 700 political and business leaders attending the Fortune Global Forum that opened in Hong Kong yesterday.
China's efforts to open to the outside world over the past 20 years and more have made it the seventh largest trading nation in the world, and for eight years in a row, China has attracted more foreign capital than any other developing countries, he said.
This has not only boosted China's economic and social development, but also created huge business opportunities for companies from other parts of the world, he added.
Jiang promised China will phase in the liberalization of such service sectors as banking, insurance, telecommunications and trade.
The ongoing forum, the seventh annual get-together of chairmen, chief executives, presidents and managing directors of multinational corporations, is focusing on the theme “Next Generation Asia".
Organizers say the event will give business leaders an ideal opportunity to forge relationships with China's political leaders.
Jiang is heading a delegation of some 150 officials, including vice premier Qian Qichen, foreign trade and economic co-operation minister Shi Guangsheng, People's Bank of China governor Dai Xianglong and Shenzhen Mayor Yu Youjun.(SD-Xinhua)
