Doctorate holders go west
|
FOLLOWING in the footsteps of the widely-lauded practice of sending volunteers from SZ to remote areas to support education, the SZ Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League is now launching a new programme to help the development of science in China's west by sending volunteer doctoral degree holders.
“This plan will lead SZ's effort to aid the poor to a new stage: that is to help them with science and technology," Cheng Xueyuan, deputy secretary of the Youth Committee said
Ten doctorate holders will be enrolled in the first practice of the plan. Their destination is Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and their service term will be one year, allowing them to complete tasks such as drafting strategies and plans for regional economic development, appraising large projects, tackling key technical problems and training local talents.
The terms of service can be flexible, officials say. Instead of spending the whole year in Guangxi, the doctorate holders can undertake study in SZ and visit Guangxi periodically.
To welcome these talents with advanced knowledge and rich experience from SZ, Guangxi has promised to ensure the best possible living conditions for them. Their offers include a jeep for each member of the programme, reimbursement of travelling expenses, accommodation allowances and medical insurance.
The plan will be launched this August and volunteers are required to sign up before June 30. “Anyone in Shenzhen with a doctorate aged between 25 to 45 is welcome," said Cheng. Detailed information is also available by calling 2095266 or 2095402.(Song Yingwen)
