New marriage law tested
|
A COURT judgement on the city's first divorce case ruling in line with the newly implemented Marriage Law was pronounced on May 9 by Futian Court.
The verdict was pronounced without the wife's presence since she disappeared in April 1998. The court's verdict approved the husband's divorce request based on the fact that the couple had lived separately for three years. The wife also had her right of custody of their daughter revoked. The court also refused the husband's request for compensation.
The husband, surnamed Lu and a Hong Kong resident, claimed that his wife Wang, who is from Sichuan Province, concealed the fact that she was eight years older than he was when they married in 1996.
Under the newly implemented Marriage Law, divorce requests of couples who have lived separately for two years can be approved.(Alfred Zhang)
