Woods replaces Brando in "Scary"
|
NOW that screen icon Marlon Brando has exorcised himself from Scary Movie 2, James Woods is stepping in.
The actor has come aboard the Dimension Films sequel, playing a priest who performs a supernatural exorcism in the movie's opening scene.
He'll replace the 77-year-old Brando, who was forced to drop out of filming last month after falling ill with pneumonia.
It's not known whether Woods, 54, who was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for 1996's Ghosts of Mississipi and had his own taste of the supernatural starring in John Carpenter's Vampires (1998), will actually earn the same paycheck as the legendary thespian, although his publicist said "it's a very substantial amount".
Brando, who's etched some of the most indelible performances in cinematic history in films like The Godfather, A Streetcar Named Desire and Apocalypse Now, was supposed to work no more than four days and get paid a cool US$2 million for what basically amounted to a cameo appearance in the spoof.
Scary movie director Keenen Ivory Wayans took a long shot and approached Brando about the part months ago. Surprisingly, the heavyset actor warmed to the idea.
The sequel, which started shooting on February 13, is due to be released on July 4 weekend.(SD-Agencies)
