Bomb
MADRID: Spain's political and social sectors on Saturday strongly condemned Friday's car-bomb attack in Madrid that injured 14 people. The explosion took place on the central Goya street two days before yesterday's important autonomous elections in the Basque region. A senior official with the government office, Juan Jose Lucas, said the attack shows that the lot for freedom or for terror will be decided in the elections in Basque, an area that has been plagued by years of ETA separatist violence.
Offensive
TIRANA: Macedonia's security troops on Saturday renewed attacks on positions held by ethnic Albanian rebels after a one-day government-declared cease-fire expired, said reports from Skopje, capital of Macedonia.
The army hit the villages of Slupcani and Vaksince, and about 30 extremists were killed in heavy bombardment and two captured in the fighting, military spokesman Blagoja Markovski was quoted as saying.

MOGADISHU: Somali warlord Hussein Mohamed Aidid yesterday claimed that 80 people, including 33 of his bodyguards, were killed in fighting which he alleged was sparked by a bid to assassinate him by the transitional government here.
