Ministry building up for grabs
|
A 30-FLOOR building illegally constructed by a ministry will be sold by auction or transfer, the Office Affairs Administration Bureau of the State Council has said.
The bureau said it would invite all legally-registered enterprises or eligible individuals in China who may be interested in purchasing the building to contact the bureau's procurement office before May 23.
The State Council confiscated the building, located on Xisanhuan Zhong Road near Beijing's western railway station, after discovering the luxurious building was constructed for dining, accommodation and conference purposes, but the designers had claimed it would be a construction scheduling building.
The State Council also found the majority of the construction funds came from “improper sources".
The bureau did not disclose the name of the ministry behind the building scam.
China's chief auditor Li Jinhua said on July 6, 2000 that State auditors, who checked the accounts of the Ministry of Water Resources for the year 1999, found serious irregularities in use of funds: About three billion yuan (US$360 million) in construction funds were used to build an office and service building, trade stock and do other improper things.
Li also said the State Council had confiscated the building and would auction it off.(SD News)
