Outstanding mothers
BEIJING: A total of 10 Chinese women, who have made remarkable contributions to their families and society, were cited as "China's Most Outstanding Mothers", on the eve of Mother's Day.
The distinguished mothers include Jin Chaorong, a mother with the Tianjin-based SOS Children's Village who has brought up 15 children, and Cering Zhoigar, a Tibetan teacher that has taught for more than 20 years in a local primary school.
The award ceremony for the mothers was held on Saturday at the Great Hall of the People in central Beijing.
Semiconductor base
BEIJING: Beijing started to build China's largest semiconductor material base on Saturday, marking another step forward for the national capital to achieve its goal of developing a high-tech sector.
Judges punished
SHENYANG: The Intermediate People's Court of Shenyang, capital of Northeast China's Liaoning Province, publicly gave various disciplinary punishments to eight judges on Saturday.
The eight judges were punished for misjudging, asperity and accepting invitations to dinners, according to a court source.
Wall collapse
URUMCHI: A wall at a construction site in the capital of Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region collapsed on Saturday morning, killing 12 people and wounding over 30 others.
According to local government officials, the brick wall collapsed because construction workers piled too much clay at the inner side of the wall.
Minibus overturn
XI'AN: Fourteen people were killed and 17 others injured Friday morning after a minibus overturned and plunged into a 40-metre-deep valley in Ankang City in Shaanxi Province.
Local authorities said the 19-seat vehicle, which was travelling from Xunyang County to Ankang, was overloaded with 31 persons when it lost control on a mountainous road and slid into the valley.
