7． 过去完成时
由had＋过去分词构成
表示过去某时之前完成的动作；或在另一动作发生之前所先完成的动作
I went there at the time agreed upon, but they had already dispersed (散了).
我在约好的时间去那里，但是他们早已散去了。
The lecture did not begin until everyone had arrived.
不等到每个人都到齐，演讲是不会开始的。
过去完成时表示已有或未有的经验
As I had seen him before, I recognized him at once.
我曾经见过他，因此我立刻认出了他。
表示在过去某时之前的继续动作
Everything had gone well up to that time.
直到那时，一切都很顺利。
表示两个不同时发生的动作，先发生的用过去完成时，后发生的用过去时
I gave him the report that I had finished last night.
我交给他我昨晚写的报告。
在间接引语中代替直接引语中的简单过去时和现在完成时
Stone said that he had studied the "3ly" method for years.
石头说他研究"三最法"已有多年。
用在虚拟语气中
I had hoped to pass the interview.
我真希望我的面试通过了。
If you fail an interview, don't be depressed. If someone asks you how it went, instead of just saying "terrible", turn your failure into a chance to improve your English and answer with this sentence followed by an explanation.
