drunk, drunken,
intoxicated, inebriated, tipsy
a) drunk
这是个简明的,直接了当的词,通常用做表语,用于指喝酒精饮料而醉倒的人。
It is not easy for you to get drunk on beer.
喝啤酒不容易醉。
It was rare for him to get drunk as a lord as he did now.
像他现在这样喝得酩酊大醉是很少见的。
b) drunken
此词通常用做定语,与drunk等义,但有时含示长期习惯性的饮酒无度。
He rarely drank, but his first drink made him a drunken man lying in the street.
他很少饮酒,但他第一次饮酒就使他成为醉汉躺倒在街上。
He is a drunken sot and often makes himself drunk.
他是个酒鬼,常常喝醉。
The drunken sailors came to quarrel and finally started a fight.

c) intoxicated
这是委婉用语,表示微醉。
They were intoxicated by their victory (by the spectacular scenery)

d) inebriated

He felt inebriated after a few cups.

e) tipsy
此词意示轻微的醉意。
He was tipsy yesterday, but is now sober.
