Police nab bank robbers
|
POLICE in Wenzhou City in East China's Zhejiang Province arrested two people early on Monday morning. They are accused of stealing one million yuan-worth of banknotes from the local branch of the Bank of China in the city.
Police said that a large portion of money has already been retrieved, and a third suspect still at large is probably carrying the rest of the money.
On the afternoon of May 9, the three, all local men, with a hired driver, drove a vehicle which looked like an official bank armoured car to the branch. Disguised in economic police and bank clerks' uniforms, they picked up 710,000 yuan (US$86,000) and US$40,000 in a regular money transfer and escaped before the real bank vehicle arrived.
Following a five-day investigation, the police captured Pan Haibing and Pan Zhilong in nearby Yongjia County.
Pan Haibing, 32, was a bank vehicle guard of the Wenzhou branch of the Bank of China.(Xinhua)
