China to tighten control on Internet bar
|
China plans to reduce by more than 50 per cent the number of video game arcades across the country by the end of this year, the Xinhua News Agency reported on Monday.
Starting April 5, China conducted a massive probe into existing Internet outlets and other areas providing Internet service.
The Ministry of Culture issued a circular recently, ordering all the relevant government agencies to stop approving new video game arcades. The existing video game arcades should not be allowed to add to or upgrade their facilities, the circular said.
Illicit video game arcades, pornographic computer games and pirated VCDs are currently the three most pressing issues that need to be tackled, according to the Xinhua report.
During the three-month probe, the relevant government agencies will reevaluate the licences of the existing Internet cafes and video game arcades. Internet cafes and video game arcades found to offer pornographic, violent and superstitious video games to their customers will be closed down, the report said.(SD News)
