QINGHUA University has just obtained permission from the State Ministry of Education to open a graduate school in Shenzhen. The graduate school, expected to be launched early next month, will be the university's first full-blown graduate school outside Beijing.
The graduate school will consolidate graduate programmes being offered through its Qinghua Research Institute, the university's research, development and technology commercialization arm.
The graduate school will start with over 600 graduate students majoring in a host of business and science programmes. The graduate school is expected to enrol 3,000-4,000 new students into its degree and diploma programmes, according to Vice-Dean Lin Gongshi.
There will also be some significant changes in Qinghua's educational programmes in Shenzhen according to Lin. For the first time the university will enrol full-time students. It means that local students will have the opportunity to attend the prestigious Qinghua University in Shenzhen and participate in the university's research programmes.
Qinghua University will also utilize the latest telecommunications technology to offer distance learning at its Shenzhen Graduate School.
Qinghua's graduate programmes in Shenzhen will focus on biotechnology, electronics, communications, network systems, environmental science and other cutting-edge science subjects to better assist local economic development.
The university will also start 10 top-level laboratories and research centres to promote technology commercialization in Shenzhen.
