Local kids celebrate Mother's Day
|
MANY of us have taken it for granted that cooking for the whole family is mom's job. We're all used to enjoying the delicacies she makes on holidays and festivals. But this past Sunday, many local kids cooked for their moms to celebrate Mother's Day. Among them was Li Yundi, the whiz-kid pianist from Shenzhen Art School.
Though as always he had to devote most of his time to practising, Yundi hurried home to cook for his mother Zhang Xiaolu. "It's Mother's Day," he told her. "Let me do the cooking so you can take a day off and rest."
"Mother is the most unselfish and loving person in this world," Yundi said, "and I can never repay her love and sacrifice."
Seven years ago, Ms Zhang gave up her job in Sichuan Province and accompanied Yundi to Shenzhen so he could receive better training in playing the piano. Besides doing the housework and caring for the daily life of her son, Zhang also accompanied Yundi and gave him advice while he was practising.
Another mom received a rose from her six-year son on Mother's Day. That morning, Ms Fang remembered, her little boy confided to her shyly, "Dear mom, today is Mother's Day, but I have no money to buy a big present for you." "It doesn't matter," Ms Fang told the boy. "I am so happy that you want to give me a present for the day." Then, while she was going out to buy breakfast for the family, she found a deep red rose fresh with dew lying on the step of her door. "Do you like it, mom?" her son said, waiting with a happy smile.
Many students bought carnations for their moms. A fifth-grader from Beidou Primary School told us that she learned from a newspaper that this flower is especially devoted to mothers. Others also bought books, cards and CDs for their moms.
"In the past I did not even remember mom's birthday," a boy said, "but mother never forgets mine and she always saves the best things for me. It's the same with my classmates."
"We celebrate the day for our moms," another girl said, "but more importantly we should care for our moms and love them every day, not just this special day."
