ACTIVITIES were held throughout SZ on May 15 to mark the 10th anniversary of the implementation of the country's disabled protection law.
As one of the country's pilot cities in protecting the disabled, SZ, over the years, has made great efforts to offer all-round services to the city's disabled persons.
About 96.5 per cent of handicapped people in SZ currently receive some form of care. During the past five years, 3,860 cataract patients recovered their eyesight, 115 deaf children had partial or full recovery of their hearing and 1,475 people with deformed legs stood up again.
To help the disabled earn a living, Shenzhen in 1998 set rules to encourage the recruitment of the handicapped in State-owned enterprises and institutions.
Moreover, special paths for the blind, ramps for wheelchairs, beepers at crossroads and other facilities catering to the demands of the disabled are now required features of the city's public places and key infrastructure projects.
