SHENZHEN'S Municipal Transportation Bureau on Wednesday initiated six measures and launched a service campaign to improve service of the city's public transportation.
The bureau, which says it will learn from the experience of Singapore, plans to add more transportation routes. Some 100 new bus stops and 500 Chinese-English directory plates will be set up within this year. The opening of 45 bus routes will further improve the public tranportation network in the city and extend the service to villages in Longgang and Bao'an districts.
The city's nearly 3,000 minibuses will be replaced by air-conditioned vehicles by October 1.
According to Hu Chunlei, of the bureau's transportation department, the bureau will initiate qualification testing of Taxi drivers and establish a star-rated service evaluation system to regulate and standardize the service of the 20,000 local taxi drivers. The service of drivers will be checked quarterly and ranked annually. The cars of drivers who deserve stars in the annual assessment will bear a clear sign which will be easy for consumers to spot.
