Suicidal child to recover

A NINE-YEAR-OLD school child who attempted suicide after being told by his mother not to play with his toys is in stable condition at the city's Red Cross Hospital.
The boy felt wronged when he was forced to take a nap before reading while he was playing toys on May 13.
After his mother went into the kitchen, he removed the belt from his pyjamas attached it to his bed. He then inserted his head into the loop and quickly lost consciousness. The boy was rushed to hospital after being discovered five minutes later.
"It is shocking to see that kids can be so psychologically fragile," said the mother at an interview. The hospital said necessary psychological treatment will be given to the boy once he recovers from his physical injuries. Experts at the hospital think most children in the city who grow in a pampered environment are weak-willed and easily defeated in the face of difficulties and obstacles.
