Freak weather puzzles experts
|
CHINA has suffered under a great deal of abnormal weather this year, with North China scorching hot and the south rather cool, China Central Television reported on Monday.
Meteorologists are puzzled by this obviously abnormal weather phenomenon. The unstable weather which often sees bright days turn gloomy in a blink of an eye only adds to their puzzlement, the report said.
Hot and dry weather has been recorded in North China since June 1, with temperatures approaching 40 degrees Centigrade. Temperature in some regions of Northeast China's Liaoning Province has even risen above the 40 degree mark.
A senior engineer with the Central Meteorological Station was quoted as saying that the temperature in the above-mentioned areas is two to six degrees higher than in previous years. However, the temperature recorded in these areas has not yet broken records, according to the engineer.
In contrast with the hot weather in North China, most parts of South China have witnessed overcast and rainy days recently, with temperatures two to five degrees lower than last year. The most typical example is Yunnan Province where rain has kept falling since May 8. The province's rainy season arrived two weeks early this year and the total rainfall recorded so far is four times higher than last year.
This is something quite rare, experts say. They are worried that the prolonged rainy season might take a toll on the rice crop.
Temperatures in North China are expected to drop by two degrees thanks to cooler weather. However, this won't last for long. Meteorologists predict that farmfield in North China will continue to be short of rain over the next six to seven days.
Cold and uncooked food is popular in summer, but doctors warn that it is better not to eat too much due to the danger of bacteria and viruses. Doctors also suggest people not order raw and cold food while eating out. Finally, doctors advise taking in enough salt as it allows you to retain water and prevent dehydration.(SD News)
