A smiling face
|
THE symbol of a bright smiling face can be seen in many places. It is widely spread on the Internet through e-mails; slanting onto one shoulder, it is painted on tee-shirts and schoolbags; and it is the symbol for Wal-mart, the No1 supermarket in the world. I sometimes wonder how it came to be so popular.
I have bought many things decorated with a smiling face, like cushions, badges and pencils. The symbols seem to have the ability to encourage me whenever my eyes fall on them. "Nothing is serious enough to ruin your day," they seem to say. And that may account for the reason why people like this symbol. They don't know what will turn up in the next moment, bad news or good luck.
Facing a world of unrealized possibilities, the best we can do is to keep smiling. Helen Keller suggested that we should treat every day as the last day of our lives.
Smile to yourself in difficulty, and courage will return to your heart. Smile to others when you meet, and you will spread happiness and bring sunlight to them.
