Tourism numbers up

SZ has received 14.3 million tourists and revenue from the travel industry totalled 10.06 billion yuan (US$1.2b), including US$480 million in foreign exchange earnings, in the first four months of this year, according to the latest figures from the city's tourism bureau.
Statistics show that 4.38 million travellers stayed overnight in the period, 8.7 per cent higher than the same period last year; 9.97 million travellers visited Shenzhen for a day, up 6.7 per cent than the same period of last year.
Since the start of this year, the number of foreign travellers touring Shenzhen has increased dramatically. All together 204,000 foreign visitors stayed overnight in the first four months, an increase of 23.5 per cent against the same period last year.
Experts in the tourism field say the booming business is the result of lengthened holidays in Hong Kong while the city was conducting a census.
Sources reveal that Shenzhen will open more tourist attractions in the second half of this year.(Alfred Zhang)
