Serial killer points out more bodies
|
A MAN charged with Swaziland's worst serial killing spree on Wednesday led police to another four bodies, bringing to 45 the number of women and children believed to be his victims, a police spokesman said.
David Thabo Simelane -- charged with 34 counts of murder of women and children -- has now pointed out 11 bodies to Swazi police in the past eight days.
Police spokeswoman Leckina Magagula announced this week that six South African forensic experts assisting them in investigating the mysterious serial killings have completed their initial work.
The victims are believed to be women because of the clothes and underwear found at the scene.
Four babies were among the dead. Some of the women's bodies were found lying face down with their hands tied behind their backs, and about half the bodies had been decapitated, police said.
Some of the victims appeared to have been sexually abused.
Simelane appeared in the central Swaziland Manzini magistrate's court late last month and told the court then that the murders took place between October 1999 and April 2001. Police said they hope to complete their investigations by the end of the year.
Simelane is being held at the Manzini police station and is expected to appear soon before the Swaziland High Court.
