New urban district in works
|
THE municipal government has decided to build a new district on the reclamation area south of Overseas Chinese Town.
The new district, covering about three square kilometres on the land reclaimed from the sea in the Binhai Thoroughfare project, is designed to be an upscale seaview residential area. But the government has not said whether the new district will pose any threat to the environment, especially the nearby Mangroves Natural Reserve.
The public has been invited to submit opinions on the designs before June 20.
According to the municipal land resources bureau, the district will be divided into three parts. Designers want to integrate residential quarters in the eastern part, as large as 530,000 square meters, with tourism. Hotels, commercial areas, schools, kindergartens and living areas are expected to be built in a harmonious manner.
The central part, as large as 470,000 square meters, is supposed to be home to new theme parks, an extension to those in the OCT.
The western part is expected to be a full residential area with schools, green belts and kindergartens.
