A NEW technology to turn waste aluminum, plastics and paper into high-performance building boards has netted an investment of over 12 million yuan in Shenzhen.
Shenzhen Dongshengli Environment Product Industry Co announced that the company produced last week the first batch of high-performance environmentally-friendly boards.
The boards not only have a high-density, provide good insulation and are resistant to humidity, but also don't emit the harmful gases usually associated with engineered boards.
The boards can be used in office and home decoration, for packaging or at public facilities.
What's more, the raw materials needed are all waste products, which normally cost the city millions of yuan for their disposal. According to president of the company, Lai Xinqing, the company uses waste meal boxes, packaging from McDonald's and other used materials and turn them into boards.
Lai said that the company will use approximately 5,000 tonnes of such waste materials per year when large-scale production is finally launched in three years time.
The company has plans to establish six waste recycling stations in Guangdong Province.
China Institute of Construction Materials Research came up with this new technology and is the sole technical service provider for the project.
Scientists say that the new material engineering technique will fill the gap in China's constant recycling effort, providing the country a solution for extracting value out of its waste.
