SHENZHEN-BASED telecommunications equipment producer Huawei Technologies Inc recently released a new core router known as Quidway NetEngine80. The new router features an improved performance in forwarding capacity, according to Huawei engineers.
This product is based on IBM's PowerNP NP4GS3 processor. With sophisticated engineering, the NetEngine80 core router evolves into another one of Huawei's products with a reliable service capability, said the engineers.
The router allows an easy introduction and expansion of the Internet and metropolitan backbone networks, thanks to its compatibility with different transmission modes. It is said to be able to power backbone networks.
NetEngine 80 has functions such as traffic classification, traffic policy (CAR), congestion avoidance, queuing schedule, output traffic shaping etc. It provides customers the option of the new congestion control method SA-RED, which handles the jitter in the traffic volume in a much smoother way than most traditional methods.
This router also enables the network to simultaneously handle data, voice and video services.
"Being the core equipment of the next generation backbone networks, high-end routers are the strategic area of contention for world-class manufacturers of networking equipment," said Xu Wenwei, senior VP of Huawei Technologies.
The product was showcased at last month's high-level telecommunications product fair held in Las Vegas, the United States.
