Evidence of past cruelty revealed
|
A VETERAN miner in Fushun City, Liaoning Province recently went public for the first time with his memories of a brutal massacre by Japanese invaders some 60 years ago.
Jia Zhenjiang, 73, told reporters that miners who caught stomach ailments would be regarded as malaria carriers by the Japanese and burned alive.
The pit which was used to burn those miners was found with Jia's help. The boiler was an open-field latrine.
According to Jia, 60 years ago -- when he was 13 years old -- he was working as a child labourer in the Longfeng Mine in Fushun City. He said Japanese medics conducted physical check-ups of the miners twice a day. If any of them were found to have diarrhea, they would be pushed into the pit and burned alive. Jia said he personally witnessed the death of a young worker, only 18 years of age, in this manner.
